Khói lửa bùng phát lúc nửa đêm, thiêu rụi căn nhà cấp 4 ở xã Phú Mỹ, khiến bé trai 9 tuổi mắc kẹt tử vong, ngày 27/9.
Khoảng 0h, căn nhà cấp bốn rộng khoảng 100 m2 của gia đình anh Trần Trung Hiếu, 35 tuổi, ở ấp Vàm Đình bất ngờ phát hỏa khi cả vợ chồng và hai con đang ngủ.
Anh Hiếu cùng hàng xóm cố gắng dập lửa nhưng bất thành. Đám cháy bùng nhanh, bé trai 9 tuổi kẹt trên giường tầng không thoát được.

Đến 0h50, ngọn lửa được dập tắt, song căn nhà cùng nhiều tài sản phục vụ kinh doanh thịt heo bị thiêu rụi. Gia đình anh Hiếu ở đối diện trụ sở UBND xã, khu dân cư đông đúc.
UBND xã Phú Mỹ đã hỗ trợ 5 triệu đồng, động viên gia đình. Nguyên nhân hỏa hoạn và thiệt hại cụ thể đang được công an làm rõ.
Lửa bùng lên từ căn nhà trên đường Nguyễn Tất Thành, thị trấn Năm Căn cũ, sau đó lan sang nhà và trụ sở chi nhánh ngân hàng kế bên, sáng 22/9.
